Yes beer can enhance your hair but not by drinking it but by using it in the proper manner directly in your hair.  The beer will actually act as a conditioner enhancing the softness and shine.  The two ingredients in the beer that do well for your hair are the protein (in the malt) and yeast.  Below you’ll find the procedure for utilizing beer in this manner.

  1. The beer must be warm and flat.  So if you have cold beer take it out of the frig, open the cap (or pop the can open) and let it sit out for a few hours.  An alternative method uses a few ounces of beer with apple cider vinegar (for pH balance).
  2. Take your beer to the shower, wash your hair following your normal shampoo routine.
  3. Then pour the beer through your hair, caressing  it gently in.  Let it sit in there a few minutes while you finish the rest of your shower.
  4. Rinse the beer thoroughly out with warm water.  Follow it up with just a small bit of conditioner and rinse with warm water followed by cool water.
  5. You can use a towel for dying but do not use a blow dryer.
  • Brushing your hair can be damaging as it pulls and causes stress on it.    Be gentle when you take the brush to it, don’t brush it vigorously.  Brushing your hair twice a day should be sufficient.
  • Even though you don’t want to over brush, brushing your hair is important.  It will take out unwanted substances such as dirt and remnants of hair products.
  • Brushing your hair will also disperse oil from your scalp throughout your hair.  Its arguable (yes I’ve seen arguments from both points of view) whether or not these oils are actually good  for healthy hair.  What is apparent is it is better not to let them collect or accumulate on the scalp or one area on the the top of your head.
  • Clean your hair brush frequently, weekly if possible.  This is beneficial because you don’t want to put what the brush filters out back into your hair.  It will also make brushing easier as cleaning will remove accumulated hair strands in the brush.  A wide toothed comb works well to remove accumulated hair on the brush.  Soaking the brush in water with a few drops of shampoo and  letting it sit for 10 minutes does the job.  Finish it off by rinsing it thoroughly in water.
  • Like massages?  Well your hair brush can provide you with a satisfying scalp massage.  Find more information about this idea here.
  • Your hair brush is your important partner in styling your hair.  Visit my hair brush guide for good information about this.
  1. Cushion Hair Brush: If you have medium to long hair and want to be gentle on fragile hair and scalp this brush works well.  Use it only on hair that is dry.  A wide cushion brush is effective on straightening hair.
  2. Round Hair Brush:  A versatile brush that you can use for curling or straightening hair.  It can be used for different lengths of hair as well; though you want to choose a larger brush for long hair and a smaller diameter brush for short hair.  The round brush is well used while blowing your hair dry for volume enhancement or straightening.  Read more about instructions regarding using a round brush in this manner.
  3. Thermal Round Hair Brush :  An enhanced round brush used generally to add size or volume to hair.  If utilized correctly this hair brush can be utilized for curling.  This brush embodies hair from the inside out with heat.
  4. Paddle Hair Brush:  This brush is great for long hair.  Actually think straight and long for this brush forget about it for layering and volume.
  5. Sculpting Brush:  Now this brush is for volume and sculpting.  Its works best for short hair and forming, textured styles.  This is the brush for backcombing.
  6. Thermal Flat Brush:   A brush used often used in conjunction with a hair dryer to straighten and add flow to hair.  Be cautious though as too much heat to your hair is damaging.
  7. Vent Hair Brush:  Allows air to flow (good with a blow dryer) to one’s hair as it is vented.  Good for forming hair into arrangements like  an under curl rapidly.
  8. Military Style Brush:  A no handle brush that is popular with men and good for those that like slicked back hair.
  1. Have a proper nutritional diet with veggies and fruits.  Basically you want to get a full range of vitamins and plenty of them.  The better you take care of your body the more it will show in healthy hair.
  2. Avoid going overboard with harmful substances such as alcohol, smoking, caffeine, etc.
  3. If you have to remove tangles from your hair gently remove them with your fingers.  A wide tooth comb will work as well.  Avoid using a brush to take tangles out as it will cause unnecessary stress.
  4. If you like braiding your hair avoid making the braids too tight.  Also its wise to remove braids before going to sleep at night.  This goes for tight pony tails as well.
  5. Keep split  ends at bay and trim them off as often as possible.  When you choose to trim your own split ends between visits to the salon utilize a professional grade scissor.
  6. Consider using a special hair oil to moisturize your hair before your normal shampooing.  This will lessen the harshness of the shampoo.  Alternatively you could cautiously water down your shampoo.
  7. Devote some money for quality hair tools for your style hair such as a decent paddle hair brush.  This is great for long straight hair.  If your hair is wavy or curly invest in a good round hair brush.  A quality boar bristle brush is great for minimizing split ends.

Many of us suffer from dry and or frizzy hair often.  Ideally our hair is shiny and lays flat which are the rewards of healthy hair.  If you are suffering from dry/frizzy hair here are a few suggestions to improve your hair‘s moisture:

  1. Are you shampooing too much?  Some may find not washing their hair daily horrid.  Well if you shampoo your hair too much you’re removing more oil from you’re hair than what is desirable.  This could be the main issue causing the dryness.  If your currently washing your hair daily with shampoo try to cut back to 3 times a week  if possible or 2 times is even better.   Some hair types like curly hair can go even longer.
  2. Too much heat!  Yes too much heat can be insidious to your hair.  Avoid subjecting your hair  to any heat from things like hair dryers, curling irons etc (suggested if possible).  At times you won’t be able to avoid using a hair dryer (like when you reside in a cold climate) so  trying using it on a lower speed with less heat.
  3. Use hair products labeled specifically for treating dry and frizzy hair.  Generally these products have a shampoo and conditioner that accompany each other.  These products are engineered to be less harsh on your hair.  Now you may have to go a step further if your hair is ravaged and go with a moisturizing deep conditioner.
  4. If you want to go natural try a little safflower oil.  You just want to use a couple of drops and leave it in your hair.  Another oil that can be used that is said to work wonders is coconut oil.

No matter what type of hair you have, hair conditioner can and should be used.  Not only will it enhance the appearance of your hair, it also improves hair‘s flexibility.  Now as far as the application of conditioner the following method is suggested:

  1. Shampoo your hair first.  Make sure to rinse the shampoo out gently but thoroughly.  Having shampoo stuck in your hair follicles is not good.
  2. Now run a comb (wide-toothed) through your hair or use your fingers.  If you hit any tangles gently remove them.  The idea is to get the hair open and ready for the conditioner.
  3. Now it is time to apply the conditioner.  The amount you use should depend on your hair’s length and thickness.  Apply a very small amount at a time, run it through your hair (from root to tip) trying to avoid your scalp as much as possible.  You want to use enough hair conditioner to cover the entire area but not drench it.  Using a wide toothed comb to dispense it through out your hair is a good option.
  4. Try to keep the hair conditioner in your hair for a least a few minutes to allow penetration.
  5. Wash the conditioner out thoroughly with warm water (not too warm though as it is damaging) until it has all been completely rinsed out.  Follow that up by running cool water in your hair to close the pores and make your hair look better and improve manageability.
